My name’s Rusty. I’ve been reading old-school, deductive mystery stories on and off for 40 years. This is a place where I’m going to share my thoughts on some of the classics, beginning with John Dickson Carr and Ellery Queen and possibly branching out into others in the future. I solemnly pledge not to spoil anything without fair warning.

The blog title comes from Ross Macdonald: “The detective isn’t your main character, and neither is your villain. The main character is the corpse. The detective’s job is to seek justice for the corpse. It’s the corpse’s story, first and foremost.”
